16. DAVID NASH of Great Nash, Esq. (abt 1440-?) 

The Golden Grove pedigree (Adv Pembs B383, Film no.104352) begins with this DAVID I, but Dwnn (I,202) gives two earlier men (see below). Both sources agree that DAVID had only one adult son, THOMAS, who inherited Great Nash, and both agree on DAVID'S wife's family.

17. ELIZABETH/ELEN LUDSOPP

Her name is Elizabeth in the GG books, but Elen in Dwnn's NASH pedigree. The LUDSOPP family came from a village named Johnston near Great Nash, and the surname appears in several 14th century records. Ludsopp was the earlier form of the place name Lydstep, where this family apparently originated.

18. PIERS SCOURFIELD of New Moat, Esq. (abt 1460-liv 1516)

On his NASH page Dwnn omits Piers and gives Jenkin as the father of Eva Scourfield, but on his SCOURFIELD pages (I,110,175-76) he gives Piers, in agreement with the Golden Grove books already cited. PIERS was still alive in 1516 when he was mentioned in a deed (Williams 20). His descendants were well recorded, and the main line continued as major landowners in Pembrokeshire until the 19th century.

19. ?Jane/ ?Alson Johns

Dwnn names her both Jane dau of Richard Johns (I,110) and Alson daughter of William Johns (I,175), but neither woman fits the chronology of the SCOURFIELD family, according to Derek Williams (22-23). William Johns belonged to an important Monmouthshire family, and Richard Johns, who was either his brother or his son, settled in Pembrokeshire. But Peter Bartrum categorically ruled out Richard Johns and found William Johns highly improbable (cited by Derek Williams), so this wife remains uncertain.

22. WILLIAM VAUGHAN of Uwchaeron, Cardiganshire (Wales)

He is identified by Dwnn (I,202) as father-in-law of 4 DAVID Nash. Among the many gentry members of the multi-branched Vaughan family, we have not sorted out this WILLIAM, but Uwchaeron is in the same area as the Vaughans of Trawscoed. WILLIAM was not connected to the Vaughans of Golden Grove. No name at all is known for his wife and their daughter, the mother of 5.ALICE MEILIR.

24. THOMAS BOWEN of Haverfordwest (Wales) (abt 1450-?)

Sometimes called Thomas ap Owen, he is little known apart from his wife, his son 12.WILLIAM BOWEN, and a daughter Jane (GG, Gwaethvoed 43L 1650, Film no.104350).

25. JANE CATHARNE

This marriage was given in the Golden Grove books, but we have no other evidence for it, according to Derek Williams. The CATHARNE family lived in Prendergast near Haverfordwest (GG, Adv Pembs B386 44, Film no.104352), and their estate passed by marriage to Alban Stepney, whose daughter by his second wife married a grandson of the last NASH of Great Nash.

26. RICHARD BATEMAN

The pedigree of the main Bateman family of Honeyborough near Neyland was recorded by Dwnn (I,173) and the GG books (Adv Pembs B368 28, Film no.104352). The Batemans of Haverfordwest doubtless came from a younger son, and our father and daughter do not appear in the pedigrees, though they were named in the BOWEN pedigrees (GG Gwaethvoed 43L 1650, Film no.104350).
